About Our Free HEIC to JPG Converter
Our HEIC to JPG converter turns iPhone photos into regular JPG files right in your browser. Add one photo or twenty, choose your quality, and download each result or the whole batch as a ZIP file. Nothing gets uploaded, so your photos never leave your device.
If you have ever tried to open a photo from an iPhone on a Windows PC, or upload one to a website that rejected it, you have met the HEIC problem. The pictures look fine on the phone but refuse to open anywhere else. This tool fixes that in a few clicks, with no software to install.
What Is a HEIC File?
HEIC is the photo format Apple has used by default on iPhones and iPads since iOS 11. It is a version of the HEIF image format that uses modern video compression, which lets it store a photo in less space than a JPG of similar quality. The catch is compatibility. Many Windows PCs, older Android phones, print shops, and web forms still expect JPG.
For a technical overview, see the Wikipedia pages on the HEIF and HEIC format and the JPEG format.
Why Convert HEIC to JPG?
You will usually want to convert HEIC to JPG in one of these situations:
- A Windows PC, TV, or older device cannot open your iPhone photos.
- A website, job portal, or government form only accepts JPG uploads.
- You are sending photos to people who do not use Apple devices.
- You need to edit a photo in software that does not support HEIC.
If you only plan to view the photos on Apple devices, there is no need to convert them. HEIC works well there and saves storage.
HEIC to JPG Quality and File Size
JPG is a lossy format, so converting HEIC to JPG discards a small amount of detail. At the default quality of 92, the difference is very hard to see in normal photos. Lower the slider for smaller files, or raise it if you plan to print or edit the picture. If you want zero further loss, choose PNG as the output format, but PNG files are much larger.
Expect the JPG to be bigger than the HEIC original. HEIC compresses more efficiently, so the same photo needs more space as a JPG. Your photo keeps its full pixel size, so you are not losing resolution. Converted files may not carry over details such as camera information or location data.
How This HEIC to JPG Converter Protects Your Privacy
The conversion runs inside your browser, and your photos are never sent to a server. Safari can read HEIC on its own. Other browsers download a small decoder from a public content delivery network the first time you add a file, then do all the work on your device. Only the decoder is downloaded. Your photos stay with you.
How to Stop Your iPhone Saving Photos as HEIC
If you would rather skip conversion in the future, you can change the camera format. Open Settings on your iPhone, tap Camera, tap Formats, and choose Most Compatible. New photos will be saved as JPG. Photos you took earlier stay in HEIC, and you can convert those here.
Tips for the Best HEIC to JPG Results
- Convert in smaller batches on a phone, since large photos use a lot of memory.
- Need the file smaller after converting? Run it through our Image Compressor or the Image to WebP Converter.
- Need a different format later? Use our JPG to PNG Converter or PNG to JPG Converter.
- Keep your original HEIC files until you are happy with the converted ones.
